Breakneck 2015
Sometimes, even Breakneck just can't get rid of a bomb!

Breakneck is a superhero OC belonging to a good friend, I put him together in DAZ Studio, with some help from props I made in Hexagon 2!

Background and Bomb edited from stock images.

Kekko Blaze by adekii
Kekko Blaze

One of my superhero OCs, Kekko Blaze!  She was the first character I ever got to max level in DC Universe Online.

Yes, I know that her costume is considered ridiculously scandalous for a teen hero. No, I don't care :)

INFORMATION:
Kekko Blaze was born Natsuko Townsend, to a Japanese mother and American father. She was raised in the United States.
Her mother's bloodline has a set of magical abilities that manifest in the first-born female of each generation, as the result of a contract with a powerful entity thousands of years ago.

Kekko Blazes' abilities allow her to absorb ambient magic energy from the very air around herself, through direct contact with her skin. "What the moon can see, that of you shall be given power". Her powers do work during the daytime as well.  While the magic energy is absorbed, it is only held within her for mere moments, she can't store up a large amount of it and then use it later. When fully dressed in her regular clothing, she wouldn't be able to absorb enough energy to do more than make a spark.

While in her costume, Kekko Blaze absorbs enough magic energy to allow her to use it fly, to fling bolts of fire, to grow flames into much larger fires, to cast spells (the fire bolts and flame expansion are technically spells as well), and to summon a large sword that is a hereditary weapon that comes with the powers.  The magic energy allows her to wield the large, heavy weapon with ease.

When Natsuko first learned of her powers, she was convinced she could never strip down to wearing almost nothing and then go fight against evil, that would be incredibly embarrassing. However her mother who had gone through the same feelings, shared with her the secret to unlocking the confidence to do so: a mask.  Natsuko designed herself a mask which her mother helped her make, and found that while wearing it, she didn't worry about being recognized or even feel concerned about the costume. The first time she activated her powers, she also discovered that her hair changed color from black to purple, so that helped too.  When she puts on the mask, she IS Kekko Blaze, not Natsuko - that's how she sees herself and is how she is able to operate as a costumed hero!

Kekko Blaze is a bit of gamer in her off-time, loving video games in several genres. She also loves reading comic books and watching movies about her favorite super heroes.  She's very happy to imagine herself one day joining forces with other superheros! She has very good memory and patter recognition skills, which helps her with both her gaming and her crime-fighting work.

Kekko Blaze has a few weaknesses. First, if her mask is somehow lost she will immediately panic and retreat.  If there is a bad situation happening where she could help, but does not have her mask with her, she will not be able to do anything to help, instead she will leave the area if possible, and try to recover her costume and mask. If she cannot leave the area, she will be stuck there, unable to do anything that an ordinary civilian could not do.  Second, if her body is enveloped by an opaque object, the terms of her powers will mean that she is "cut off" from ambient magic and cannot absorb any more. Simply being covered with a sheet or tarp would immediately have that effect.  Third, any effect that somehow removes the ambient magic energy from an area will mean that she has no energy to absorb, and will have no special abilities at all.  If she has already summoned her sword before entering such an effect, the sword will persist until she dismisses it, but she will be unable to wield it.

Her cape is from a freebie set on ShareCG, hair is from the Toon Sadie set, background is from a Wallpaper stock site. Mask, gloves, boots, shorts, and belt made by me in Hexagon and/or PaintToolSAI. Rendered in DAZ Studio, composited in PaintToolSAI

As reported by USA Today, Hasbro’s “Fan Built Combiner” poll results are in.

The new combiner? Victorion. That’s an awesome name in and of itself, for me invoking the visions of Brave Robo heroes.

The best part?  The combiner itself is female, and made of 6 female transformers characters.  This is huge.  Female characters were incredibly under-represented in the original G1 cartoon, and one of the only regular female cast members, “Arcee” who was introduced in Transformers: The Movie, was only finally represented by a toy THIS YEAR.  29 years later.

So to have something as cool as a combining team be made of female characters, is fantastic.  Even more so if this means six NEW characters, which means a 6 character up-count for canon female characters in the franchise.

Hopefully Hasbro really follows through with this.  No cut corners on the toys (Combiner Wars figures have been spectacular so far) fun new designs, and good availability for these figure in all of their markets.

There’s still a chance this could be fucked over, though.  Hasbro is still having IDW make the comic books to promote their toys.  IDW, with the exception of a few people they brought on specifically for some female-character oriented books, is comprised of psychotic, classless, shock-jock dude-bros and unless Hasbro puts a tight leash on those fucking idiots, chances are that within the first couple of issues of the comic that this new female combiner is introduced in, either a couple of members of the team are going to be permanently ruined or killed off in stupid ways, or the entire combiner will be killed off.  Because that’s how those talent-less hacks roll at IDW.

I’m choosing to remain optimistic for the toys though, I expect great things, Hasbro.  Great things!

Also, click through to the USA Today article for access to a video clip showing female character Windblade in action, a sneak peek at a future episode of the current animated series!
